Elizabeth Ann (Battles) Povenmire, 66, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on January 26, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House. A celebration of her life will take place on Wednesday, February 1st from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM at the VFW Sugar Creek Memorial Post 3976 located at 12810 Kentucky Road, Sugar Creek, MO. Elizabeth (Beth) was born the youngest of three children on April 7, 1945 in Sedalia, Missouri, to Richard and Freda Battles. She spent her childhood in Sedalia and graduated from the Sacred Heart High School. She then attended the Central Missouri State College (Now the University of Central Missouri) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Beth was also a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. After graduation she moved to Independence, Missouri and met her future husband, John Povenmire. She often described him as “a diamond in the rough” with his long hair, tattoos and custom chopper motorcycle. They were married for 44 years until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Michael Battles. Survivors include; husband, John Povenmire; children, Jeremy Povenmire and Mindy (Povenmire) Hempler; sister, Kathy Assouad; grandchildren, Wesley Povenmire and Audrey Povenmire; and many nieces and nephews. Beth had a lifelong love of animals, particularly dogs.
