Evelyn Frances Powers

Evelyn Frances Powers, 97 of Independence passed away Thu. May 17, 2007 at North Kansas City Hospital. An open house tribute will be 1:00 �" 4:00 p.m and 7:00 �" 8:00 pm, Friday, May 25, 2007. Graveside inurnment will be 11:00 am, Thu. May 24, 2007 in Urich Cemetery, Urich, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Nurse's Alumni Scholarship Program C/O The Baptist-Trinity Lutheran Legacy Foundation; attn: Karen Murphy; 6601 Rockhill Rd; KCMO 64131. Mrs. Powers was born to Frank and Esther Johnson in Kackley, KS. She had been a private duty nurse, and a nursing supervisor with Trinity Lutheran Hospital and an industrial nurse at Montgomery Wards. Evelyn was a loving mother and a giving friend who was an enthusiastic card player and an avid seashell collector who gave lectures. She was a graduate of Trinity Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing and a member of the Blue Ridge Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as Altar Guild flower lady. Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her husband Dr. John M. Powers in 1975. With her quick wit and droll sense of humor, this woman of few words spoke to the point, often leaving listeners with smiles on their faces. She was one of the most giving people who lived her nursing role of care-giving with everyone, but her no-nonsense personality let others know in her concise way exactly what she thought. Though not always wearing a big smile, the twinkle in her blue eyes added a spark of inner life to her countenance that drew people to her. She put others before herself in most everything and made paying for one’s own lunch difficult because she wanted to do the treating. We will miss her.
She is survived by a daughter, Sally Powers of Independence, MO, a niece, Connie Buchanan of Yakima, WA and a nephew, Alan Johnson of Downey, CA and many friends.
