Viola "Billie" Powers, 81, died September 16, 2011; with her family by her side in Independence, MO. on her 60th wedding anniversary to beloved husband Jimmie.
Billie was born February 20, 1930 in Red Oak, IA to Vernie and Lee Rodebush. She was a wonderful mother to her two children, creating a "Leave it to Beaver" kind of life for son, Michael and daughter, Vicki. In the 1950's, after an eventful Air force life with her husband, she joined a Jackson County Club named, "The Learn a Little", which raised money and made items for those in need. The members remained friends for over 50 years and developed rules for their monthly meetings of no conversation of husbands, children, politics or religion.
Billie's love, wit, truth, extraordinary beauty, and distinguishing blue eyes are known to those who had the opportunity to know her briefly or for a lifetime. A lover for all of those in need, including her 4-legged friends, she always provided an ear or a home-cooked meal. Known as "Nana Puppy", she cherished her granddaughters and her son-in-law who she greatly supported and loved.
She is reunited with her son, Michael Powers; close family members, and friends.
Billie is survived by her husband, Jimmie R. Powers; daughter and son-in-law Vicki S. and Joseph C. Cusumano, and his parents, Marianne and Anthony J. Cusumano; granddaughters Mollie M. and Joette L. Cusumano; sister and brother-in-law Betty and Bob Fisher; sister-in-laws, Genet Dixon and Nadene Franke; and loving nieces and nephews.
At her request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association.
