Helen Louise Pray, 102, Independence, MO died on Wednesday, September 24, in the White Oak Living Center of The Groves Community in Independence.
Helen was born September 25, 1912, to Henry and Margaret (Griffin) Meurer in Fort Wayne, IN. She married Jack Pray in 1939, with whom she enjoyed full-time appointment for the Community of Christ Church in Port Huron, MI; Chatham, ON; Mobile, AL; Pittsburg, KS; and Midland, MI. After her husband’s death in 1960, Helen moved to Independence, where she served on the World Church Women’s Council. She was a long-time receptionist at Resthaven (later The Groves) until she retired in 1995 and moved to Duluth, GA. Before returning as a resident to White Oak in 2009, she traveled to Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, The Bahamas, and Ireland.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, twin-brother and sister, James and Mary Meurer. Her memory is cherished by daughters Sharon Muir, Rochester Hills, MI, and Jackie Pray (James Wolk), Duluth, GA; grandson Benjamin Wolk, St. Simons Island, GA; granddaughter Kelli Wolk (Ron Day) and great granddaughter Anna Leigh Day all of Smyrna, GA.
The family shares the wonder of her life with Helen's many friends and her extended family at The Groves. We will all miss her warmth, humor, and enjoyment of simple pleasures.
Following cremation, a Celebration of the Life of Helen Pray will be held on Saturday, November 07, 10:00am at The Groves Community Room, 1515 W. White Oak in Independence. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Community of Christ, The Groves Congregation, 1515 W.
