Donald E. Prevo, 93 of Independence, MO, passed away, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Wilshire at Lakewood Care Center.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the chapel.
Don was born June 9, 1915 in Green County, MO to Claude and Luetta (Matthews) Prevo. He had worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service from 1946 until he retired in 1973. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading western novels, playing guitar, traveling and playing craps. He was a member of Moose Lodge, Riviera Camping Club and a life member of the D.A.V. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in New Guinea, Bismarck, Southern Philippines, Luzon and Guadalcanal and was awarded a Bronze Star for “Heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy at Pavia, Panay, Philippine Islands on 20 March 1945.”
He was married to Elsie C. Blackerby on August 23, 1941 and they enjoyed nearly 60 years together before she passed away on July 31, 2001.
He is survived by; a daughter, Lynda Thornbury and her husband Ron of Independence, MO; a son, Rick Prevo of Independence, MO; a grandson, Brenton Easley and his wife Mary and their sons, Tyler and Drew Easley and 3 step grandchildren, Trisha Thornbury, Haley Velazquez and Amy Thornbury.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Elbert Prevo in 1982.
