Nadine June Rains, 88, Independence, MO, died Sunday, November 23, 2008, at Carmel Hills Living Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 26, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Visitation will be 1-2:00 pm Wednesday, at the chapel, with Eastern Star service at 1:30 pm. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Mrs. Rains was born on June 19, 1920, in Kansas City, MO, to Clarence and Iretta Harrington. She married Loren Rains on November 1, 1945. She loved to garden and can vegetables, cook, and play cards. She loved her family and enjoyed their gatherings. She worked at the IRS until she suffered a fall in 1978. Mrs. Rains enjoyed spending summers at their lake home at Pomme de Terre. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Independence Chapter 329; was a charter member of the Ladies of the Moose, Independence Chapter 2131; and was a 50-year member of the Glenwood Park Methodist Church. Mrs. Rains was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Michael, and her brother, “Bub” Harrington. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Loren Rains; two daughters, Neila Crist and husband Don, and Linda Travers and husband John, all of Independence; three grandchildren, Rick Dreher, John Travers, and Janet Dover; eight great-grandchildren; and other loving relatives and friends.
