Rev. Thomas Randol

Rev. Thomas Warren Randol, 63, of Independence, died August 6, 2010 at his home after a long battle with Parkinson’s and diabetes. Services will be 2 pm, Wed., Aug. 11, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, 100 N. Pleasant, Independence, MO. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. A committal service with Full Military Honors will be held at 10 am, Thursday, Aug. 12 at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Diabetes Assoc.
Born in Denver, Colorado, Mr. Randol was graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1965. Mr. Randol later received an Associate of Arts degree from Graceland College in 1968 and a Bachelors of Music Education from Drake University in 1970.
After graduating from Drake University, Mr. Randol taught music education in the Ackley-Geneva School System, in Geneva, Iowa. Later in 1970, Mr. Randol accepted enlistment as a tenor soloist in the Singing Sergeants, the official chorus of the United States Air Force. Mr. Randol served in the Singing Sergeants from 1970-74.
In 1975, Mr. Randol entered Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in North Kansas City, where he graduated with a Masters in Divinity in 1978. After graduation, Mr. Randol pastored Grant City Christian Church, in Missouri (1979-82); Tonkawa Christian Church in Oklahoma (1982-83); and served as Minister of Music at Broadway Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas (1983-85).
In 1985, Mr. Randol accepted an active duty assignment as an Air Force chaplain. He served at Keesler, AFB, Mississippi (1985-90) and Homestead, AFB, Florida (1990-92). In 1992, Mr. Randol retired from the Air Force with 22 years of service.
In 1993, Mr. Randol continued his call to ministry as the protestant chaplain at the Naval Retirement Home in Biloxi, Mississippi. Mr. Randol counseled and ministered to his fellow veterans at the Naval Home until health problems forced him to retire in 2000.
In 2001, Mr. Randol and his wife, Betty, moved to Independence to be closer to family.
Mr. Randol is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Michael of Independence and Matthew of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and his mother, Lavare of Independence, MO.
