Frederick Rawlins

Frederick Dale Rawlins, 84, of Independence, MO passed away March 12, 2014. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. service on Saturday, March 15, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Burial will be held at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CPRS-Center Place Restoration School. Fred was born December 3, 1929 in Independence, MO, the son of George and Laura Rawlins. He grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, moving back to Independence in 1946 at the age of 17. He then graduated from William Chrisman in 1948. Soon after, he joined the Navy, and in his four years, he served on two different ships, the USS Pittsburgh a battle ship and the USS Sarci an ocean tug during the Korean Conflict. After returning, he completed his education in electronics. On November 6, 1981, he married Beverly (Eads) Hart Rawlins. He loved the Lord and was an active member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church all of his life. Fred was ordained as an Elder on March 26, 1978, serving as pastor for two years at Farview Restoration Branch. He enjoyed woodworking, making all kinds of furniture, cabinets and furnishing, for family, friends and for church. He was a handyman and could repair almost anything. His career was in publishing and was an electrician. Fred loved to study the scriptures and was also an avid reader of all good books. Fred served where ever he was needed at church and he was always there when the doors were open. He loved to be with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was especially honored as “Uncle Fred” by many nieces, nephews and others. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Rawlins Jr.; and one sister, Mary Gaffield. Survivors include his wife, Beverly; sisters, Rogene Rawlins, Donna Giese and Naoma Davis; one brother, Elmer Rawlins; step daughters, Wanda Hart and Dana Reynolds; grandchildren, Tricia Gillespie, Morgan Winslow, Lisa Yroz, Brenda Rhoads, Jessica Winslow and Mindy Kastor; as well as twelve great grandchildren.
