Sarah Evelyn Reed, 86, passed away on October 10, 2015, in Liberty, MO. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, from 9-10:30am, with funeral service to follow at 10:30am, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. She will be laid to rest in Blue Springs Cemetery.
Evelyn was born on September 6, 1929, in Kansas City, MO., to Troy and Sarah (O’Neal) Maggard, and married Ulysses Williams in 1944. She obtained her GED, and went on to CMSU for her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Elementary Education, all while raising her family. She was a fifth grade teacher for the Blue Springs School District for 23 years, teaching the majority of the time at John Nowlin Elementary. In 1988, she remarried to Paul Reed. Evelyn was a member of the Church of Christ, Missouri State Teacher’s Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Sweet Adeline’s, and MENSA. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, round dancing, spending hours in the lake, and traveling in her fifth wheel. Evelyn will be remembered not only for her spunky and competitive spirit, but also for her deep love for her family.
Survivors include her children: Steven (Cynthia) Williams, Terry Williams, and Janice (Joseph) Huffman; nine grandchildren: Shelley Cavallaro, Jeff Bratcher, Melissa Homayouni, Angela Stroup, Brian Williams, Jill Harper, Cathryn Dinges, Stacy Ginie, and Brad Williams; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Nola Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her two husbands; daughter, Sharon Williams-Walker; four brothers, and one sister.
