Frank Edward Reistad passed away October 4th, 2011 at his home in Independence. He was born December 25th, 1910 and grew up in the small town of Blue River Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his best friend, and loving wife of 65 years, Rachel (Davenport) Reistad, in November 2010. He leaves behind his daughter Pam Rector of Independence, grandson Mike Rector of Kansas City, granddaughter Beth Rector of Kansas City, and dozens of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
After attending the University of Wisconsin, he served in the US Navy from 1931 to 1939, and was stationed on the USS West Virginia. After serving in the Navy, Frank went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration. The early part of Frank’s thirty-two year FAA career involved handling communications for U.S. aircraft during World War II in Honolulu, Alaska, and on Canton Island in the Pacific. He retired in 1973. He stayed busy, first getting his real estate license, and then becoming a member of Lion’s Club International. He was very active in his church, the Community of Christ Church, Ridgewood congregation.
He golfed into his early nineties, and loved all major league sports, with baseball being his favorite. He remained a true blue Royal’s fan until the day he died.
He rarely complained, always had a smile on his face, and had a truly positive attitude towards life.
He loved his friends and family deeply, but no one as much as his wife Rachel. He missed her terribly, and waited patiently for the day they would reunite. In her memory, and in lieu of flowers, make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
