Reymundo
Yzquierdo
July 29, 1948 – March 14, 2026
Reymundo "Rey" Yzquierdo, a man whose heart was as vast as the Texas sky he so dearly loved, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas, surrounded by family and love. Born on July 29, 1948, in Eagle Pass, Texas, Rey lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and a deep passion for family and community.
For 25 years, Rey worked diligently on the assembly line for Brinkman, a commitment that reflected his strong work ethic and unwavering dedication. Retirement did not slow him down; instead, it opened a new chapter where he embraced the joys of meeting people, serving as a greeter and cashier for five years at Walmart. In this role, he found profound happiness in connecting with every customer, sharing moments of warmth and laughter that brightened their days as much as his own.
Rey carried a spirit that was truly one of a kind. Known for having the biggest heart and the kindest soul, he was beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His infectious warmth and genuine goodness radiated in every interaction. Best friends with his sister Elvira, their bond was a testament to the strength of family love and loyalty that defined his life.
A proud Texan to the core, Rey's affection for his home state was vividly displayed—a license plate reading "Lil' Tex" adorned his car, and his room was a shrine to his favorite sports team, decorated with banners and pillows celebrating his unyielding devotion as a die-hard Chiefs fan, he was a faithful fan of the Royals as well. Rey enjoyed all sports, but the Chiefs and the Royals were his favorites; they were a reflection of his spirited nature and zest for life.
Rey is survived by his sisters, Maria Carter-Malina (Dr. John Malina) of Taylor, Pa, and Oralia Short (Tommy) of Independence, Mo; brother, Isidro Yzquierdo Jr (Joyce) of North Port Florida; nephew, Matthew Short (fiancé Emily Jackson) of Blue Springs, Mo; Niece, Kellie Wzorek ( Lt. Col. Joseph) of Colorado Springs, Co; and great niece, Chloë of Colorado Springs, Co; and a host of extended family and friends who held a special place in his heart. He is preceded by his grandparents, parents, several aunts and uncles, special friend Carol, and his beloved sister Elvira.
Reymundo Yzquierdo leaves behind a legacy built on love, kindness, and a generosity of spirit that touched countless lives. While his presence will be deeply missed, the memories of his warmth, his laughter, and his enduring love for family and friends will forever be cherished.
Rest in peace, Rey. Your journey here may have ended, but your beautiful soul will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew you.
