Charles M. Rice, 87, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away, Monday, November 23, 2009. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. Donations may be made in his name to St. Luke’s Hospice. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday evening at the chapel. Charles was born August 7, 1923 in Belle, MO to Alonzo and Edna (Owens) Rice. He had worked as a carpenter in construction and had retired from Worlds of Fun as a specialty carpenter. He proudly served in the US Navy on submarines in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Clinton and former member of the carpenter’s union. He enjoyed fishing and woodcarving. He was married to Laverne O. Pack, she preceded him in death in 1997. He later married Jeanne (Hodges) Antes, she survives. Other survivors include; 2 daughters, Jeanne Rice of Independence, MO and Deborah Wallen and her husband Jim of Blue Springs, MO; a son, Carl Rice and his wife Karla of Port St. Lucie, FL; 3 brothers, Jewell Rice of Marshall, MO, Leon Rice of Lee’s Summit, MO., and Robert Rice of Richmond, MO; 2 sisters, Joy Reidy of Wentzville, MO and Gloria Marvel of Tallahoma, TN; 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
