Richard Lee Bennett passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on December 6, 2025. He was born in Trenton MO on Aug 22, 1937, to Russell Bennett and Florence Campbell Bennett. Although the family moved to Kansas City when Richard was young, he always considered Trenton his home.
Richard graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1954 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served until he was honorably discharged. He moved back to Trenton, married Judith Trumbo and they were blessed with a son, Tim. He was tragically widowed when he lost his wife and second child during childbirth in 1964. He then made the move back to Kansas City where his parents helped care for his young son.
He joined the Assembly of God church and a few years later his Pastors, Aaron & Jeanette Pack introduced him to Aaron's sister, Mary, from Winfield, KS and they quickly fell in love and were married on Feb 12, 1967. The following year, their daughter, Melanie, was born.
Richard worked at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for over 25 years, starting in maintenance, moving up the ladder through various jobs, and ending his years there working on the train crew as the conductor. After retiring from Lake City, his son-in-law, Mike Walker, talked him into driving an out-of-town parts delivery truck for him with Cable Dahmer Chevrolet, which helped fulfil a lifetime want of being an over-the-road truck driver. Richard worked in the Parts Department there until 2017 when he officially retired again.
Richard was a faithful husband, father, and friend. He loved the Lord and led by example. Every morning before leaving for work, he made sure that the day was started sharing in reading a Bible passage and prayer together. He served willingly in his church as a board member, a song leader, a Sunday School teacher, a janitor, or doing whatever else needed to be done. He loved to laugh and he loved to eat! He treasured family time most of all.
Richard was undoubtedly met at his arrival in Heaven by so many loved ones that have gone before, including Mary, who passed in 2020; his parents; his brother, Jim; son-in-law, Mike; and his child that was lost so many years ago that he spoke of looking forward to the day that he would get to meet him.
He is survived by his children, Tim & Melanie; grandchildren, Blake and Brandi Housley; and great-granddaughter, Nora James Housley, who was the absolute joy of his last years; sisters-in-law, Mary Kay Bennett, Nedra Musgrove, and Jeanette Pack; brother-in-law, Bob Drennan; and his treasured nieces and nephews.
The physical decline that he experienced during his last months on this earth was eased with the assistance of the incredible staff of Monarch Hospice and for this his family is forever grateful. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Monarch Hospice in Richard's honor.
