Richard Eddy Davenport, born on February 22, 1925, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully in Kansas City, Missouri, on November 7, 2024. He was a devoted patriot, who served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946 during World War II. He took great pride in his service to his country and the work he accomplished, always fighting with honor for what he believed in while protecting his family and loved ones.
After his military service, he furthered his education and graduated from the University of Missouri, Kansas City with a Bachelor Science in Chemistry. Richard had a long and fulfilling career as a chemist, retiring from KC Power and Light [Evergy] in 1985. His career was marked by dedication and a strong work ethic, attributes he carried throughout his life.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Richard was known for his love of travel, particularly to the Lake of the Ozarks, where he enjoyed boating, swimming, and creating cherished memories with family and friends. He was a connoisseur of beer, often bringing a cooler filled with his favorites to share during outings. Richard was also an avid reader, passionate about studying various topics, and he found joy in drafting and engineering his own model airplanes and ships.
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his family, including his son, Bill Davenport; his grandsons, Marty Davenport (Michele), Michael Davenport, and Mason Davenport; step-grandsons Ken Hackler (Cheri); step-granddaughter Elizabeth Hackler (Peter Wiebe); great-grandchildren, Whitney, Dakota, Alex, Jordan, Isaac, Greta, Nathan, Jillian, and Paige; as well as many great great-grandchildren and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Davenport; second wife, Donna Hackler; parents; and siblings, Kenneth Davenport and Elizabeth Davenport. Richard's legacy of love, respect for family, and dedication to his principles will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A Visitation will be held on November 15, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Speaks Suburban Chapel, located at 18020 E 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055. The Funeral Service will take place the following day, November 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM, also at Speaks Suburban Chapel, with a graveside service following at Mt. Washington Cemetery, located at 614 S Brookside Ave, Independence, MO 64053. Richard Eddy Davenport will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
