Bob Riley, 72, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Lee’s Summit. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2009 at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, 2200 N. Blue Mills Rd., Independence, MO 64058. Visitation will be 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial in New Salem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church. Bob was born February 3, 1937 in St. Joseph, MO to Leo and Catherine (Carr) Riley. He graduated from Glennon High School in 1955 and proudly served in the U.S. Army reserves for 13 years. Mr. Riley retired after 42 years of faithful service as a repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone. He was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers, a life member of the Knights of Columbus #7055, director of the Kansas City Bowling Association and the CWA local union #6333. Mr. Riley proudly restored the historical Rice-Peace Cemetery in eastern Jackson County with his grandson, Jason. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Beverly (Tryon) Riley; son Dan Riley and wife Roxane; their children Adam Riley and wife Amanda; great-granddaughters Chloee and Delaney; Laura (Riley) Moore and husband Chris; Sean Riley; daughter Karen Spencer and husband David; their children Jason Spencer and wife Mendi; great-granddaughter Brooklyn; Jill Spencer; Bridget (Spencer) Schinstock and husband Ryan; great-grandchildren Riley Spencer, Abigail and Emma Schinstock; brother Pat Riley and wife Gloria; sisters Kathryn Shelkop and husband John, Karen Lorenz and husband Steve; brother Tim Riley. He was preceded in death by his grandson Benjamin Riley.
