Donald (Don) R Riley Sr. Of Chandler, AZ passed away on April 9, 2007 from a head injury sustained in a fall at home.
Don was born in Pettis County, MO on November 5, 1931. He was educated in the Sedalia, MO school system and graduated from Smith-Cotton HS in 1949. Don went on to serve our country in the US Navy and is a veteran of the Korean War.
Don is survived by his wife Millie and children Liz Riley of Chandler, AZ, Roger Riley, wife Donna and Granddaughter Taylor of Chandler, AZ, and Stan Riley, wife Jennifer and Granddaughters Shannon and Delaney of Belvidere, IL. A brother Charlie Riley lives in Sedalia, MO and he had many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceeded in death by his parents Charlie and Birdie Riley and sisters Helen Rittman and Laura Ann Tharp.
Don retired in 1997 from Children's Mercy Hospital as Director of Maintenance and Construction after 15 years of dedicated service.
Don was most proud of his family and their accomplishments. His friends and family were proud of his dedication to the youth of Independence and Blue Springs, MO. For 37 years he taught the qualities of citizenship, sportsmanship, loyalty, respect, fair play and courage to countless young men, through the sport of baseball. Many of who have gone on to become seccessful businessmen, fathers and husbands and some who had the privlege of playing baseball professionally. Don's dedication to the youth in our area allowed him to develop long lasting relationships with athletes and parents alike, far too many to name. He will be remembered and missed for years to come.
A visitation will be held Saturday, April 14 from 1-2:00 p.m. at the Speaks Suburban Chapel on 39th Street @ 291 Highway. A Memorial service will follow at 2 pm.
