Bernard Leroy Ripple, 89, Independence, MO, passed away Monday, April 13, 2009 at Rosewood Healthcare.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, April 17, 2009 at Carson Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Independence, the Disabled American Veterans or The Groves, for all their care and compassion.
Bernard was born July 22, 1919 in Dearing, KS the son of Waye and Grace M. (Sharp) Ripple. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater with 16th Tank Battalion. He had worked for the Lake City Arsenal, the Gleaner Harvesters, Westinghouse Gas Turbine Division and retired in 1981 from Western Electric as an Engineering Associate. He was a member of the United Steelworkers CIO, the Truck Drivers Local 41, the Local CWA and the VFW. Bernard was a member of the First Christian Church in Independence where he was associated with the Christian Church Disciples of Christ Historical Society.
He married Vondean Ripple on February 9, 1940. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2002. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and his parents.
He is survived by his son Rick Ripple and his wife Marilyn of Gallatin; daughters, Judith Yealy and her husband Don of Longmont, CO; and Donna Foley of Muncie, IN. 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
