Rita Ann Lindsey

January 17, 1932 — February 19, 2026

Independence, Missouri

Rita Ann (Thurman) Lindsey, age 94, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026. Born on January 17, 1932, in Independence, Missouri, she was the youngest of nine children to Earl and Martha Thurman. Raised on a farm near the Independence town square, Rita's early years were filled with the values of hard work and family that would define her life.

A proud graduate of St. Mary's Catholic High School in 1950, Rita cherished the lifelong friendships she formed there, staying in touch with her classmates throughout her life. It was during a high school function at the Granada Theater on the Independence town square that she met the love of her life, Herbert Walker Lindsey III. The two began dating and were married in August 1951 at the parish rectory. Together, they built a beautiful life and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before Herb's passing in March 2017.

Rita and Herb were blessed with four children: Debbie (Jerry), David, Patti (Paul), and Susie (the late Michael Corrigan). Their family grew to include eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren—an extraordinary legacy spanning five generations. Rita adored her family and took immense pride in their accomplishments. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren, and spent many hours entertaining them at her home.

Rita had an exceptional career as a Zone Organizer for Princess House products, a direct sales company. Her charisma and dedication allowed her to build an organization of over 1,000 people. She thrived on recruiting, training, and hosting sales meetings across the Midwest with those she considered both family and friends. Her hard work earned her numerous incentive travel trips that took her and Herb around the world.

Beyond her professional achievements, Rita had a deep passion for gardening, yard work, cooking for her family, and quilting. Her quilts were labors of love that she gifted to those she held dear. A devout Catholic, Rita found great comfort and community in her faith. She served as a eucharistic minister and participated alongside Herb in the Stephen Ministry at their Blue Springs church, offering support to parishioners in times of need.

Known for her vibrant personality and gift for storytelling, Rita could captivate any audience with tales that entertained all who listened. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Rita," by the nieces and nephews. Rita and Herb were often the life of the party, hosting annual holiday gatherings that were fun for all who attended.

Rita's final day was marked by faith and grace; she received the Ash Wednesday blessing and while holding her rosary in hand and wearing her scapular, she joined her beloved Herb in heaven on the morning of February 19th.

Rita Ann Lindsey leaves behind a legacy of family, love and faith. May she rest in eternal peace alongside Herb. A Funeral Mass will be held on February 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Mark's Catholic Church 3736 S. Lee's Summit Road
