Rita Marie White

April 2, 1940 — September 2, 2023

Independence, MO

Rita Marie White, a beloved figure in her community, passed away on September 2, 2023. She was born on April 2, 1940, in Mahanoy City, PA to Robert and Carrie Leymeister.  She married her beloved husband, Ernest White in May 1960, and enjoyed life with him until he passed away on August 22, 2011.  Rita will be remembered for her kind nature, as well as her unwavering dedication to her family.

Throughout her life, Rita found fulfillment in her career and volunteer work. She was a homemaker for a majority of her life and then for nearly 10 years, she served as a greeter at Price Chopper, where she brightened the days of countless shoppers with her warm smile and friendly demeanor. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Rita also dedicated her time to volunteering at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library. Her commitment to service and community was truly inspiring.

Rita's genuine love for others extended far beyond her work and volunteer commitments. She created lasting memories with those closest to her, including cherished moments with Allen, who will forever miss their morning phone calls and the breakfasts he lovingly prepared for her when they lived together.

Family always came first for Rita. She treasured the moments spent with her children - Carrie Kim, Allen, and Kristina - as well as her grandchildren - Hunter, Olivia, Macy, and Cassidy Pence, Angie Holt, and Robbie and Billy Mathews. Their laughter and joy brought immense happiness to Rita's life.

Rita had a way of finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. She adored going on vacations with her sisters Blanche Paisley and Fern McCaston but found true happiness in witnessing the growth and happiness of her children, nephews, nieces, and their own children. Her unconditional love knew no bounds.

In addition to spending quality time with loved ones, Rita had a few hobbies that brought a smile to her face. She was an avid KC Chiefs fan and enthusiastically supported the team through thick and thin. Rita also found solace in observing hummingbirds as they graced her presence, and had a soft spot for Snoopy and Woodstock. These simple pleasures added an extra touch of joy to her life.

Today, we bid farewell to Rita Marie White, a woman whose kindness and forgiveness left an indelible mark on the lives she touched. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her surviving family members - her children, grandchildren, sisters, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

May she rest in eternal peace.
