Virginia Jean (Lewis) Roark, 86, Independence, MO passed away peacefully Sunday, January 22, 2012 at her home with her family at her side.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64052. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.
Virginia was born August 26, 1925 in Missouri Valley, IA the daughter of Bert and Gertrude (Moss) Lewis. Mrs. Roark was a 1943 graduate of Lincoln High School in Lincoln, NE. She worked at Miller & Paine Department Store during high school. Soon after, Virginia became a nurse’s aide for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Leavenworth, KS during WWII. Virginia was united in marriage on June 30, 1948 to Raymond H. Roark, and together they shared almost 63 years of happiness. Mrs. Roark was a member of South Chrysler Restoration Branch of Independence, MO. Virginia was a half owner of Roark Ranches of Wiggins, CO, a farm of over 5,300 acres, with her husband. Ray and Virginia moved to Independence in the 1980’s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond.
Her survivor include her son, Ronald Roark and wife Gerry; daughter Cinda Chapman and husband Charles; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son John Roark and daughter Sharon Kersey.
