Robert Earl Bandlow, age 70, of Bates City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2026.
Robert was born on May 20, 1955, in Independence, Missouri, to Earl and Marjorie Bandlow. In his youth, he was a proud Eagle Scout and graduated from Truman High School, where he was a member of the swim team. In the early 1970s, he joined his mother in the family business, helping to shape Knitcraft into what it is today. Through hard work, determination, and a keen business sense, he helped establish Knitcraft as a lasting part of the community and a source of inspiration for generations. He could often be found in the store “spinning a yarn,” captivating customers with stories and conversation.
In 1980, he married Kathy Thornburgh, and together they raised three children. Robert held strong family values, creating lasting traditions that continue to this day. One of the family’s most cherished traditions was their annual summer vacations, often spent in Colorado hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Holidays were equally important—bringing family together from near and far to share time, laughter, and connection.
Later in life, Robert met Angelika, who quickly became what he lovingly called his everything. Together, they joined not only their lives but their shared dreams, blending their stores and passions into one and building a life side by side. Robert had always dreamed of living in the country and creating something of his own on his own land. With Angelika, that dream became a reality, and together they built a home and life that reflected their love, dedication, and vision for the future.
Robert never met a stranger—he had a remarkable way of turning anyone into a friend. Known for his generous heart and larger-than-life presence, he filled every room he entered and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother and father, Marjorie Mussell and Earl Bandlow.
Robert is survived by his loving companion, Angelika Burles. His sister Janis Davis (husband John Davis). His children Lindy Graham, Lori Goodpaster (husband Bradley Goodpaster), Brett Bandlow (significant other Kelly Acock). The mother to his children Kathy Bandlow. His grandchildren Kirstin, Kylee, and Gage Graham, Jacob and Caleb Vigil, Allyson and Lainey Goodpaster. His cousins Mark Wildermuth (wife Claire Huang) and JoLynn Lunger (husband Ray Lunger). And his niece Jobeth Penberthy.
A small graveside service will be held with family. A celebration of life will take place at a later date to honor and remember him.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan) at the following link:
