Obituary

Robert Dale Otto II, known as Bob for his friends and Butch for his family, passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2026, at Menorah Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas. Born on January 29, 1949, in Amhurst, Ohio, to Robert Dale Otto and Joyce Kawasaki Otto, Bob graced this world with his presence for 77 remarkable years.

Bob earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri, an achievement that laid the groundwork for a meaningful career primarily within the trucking industry. Over the years, he worked in several positions before retiring in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of reliability and professionalism. His quiet demeanor often belied the profound weight his words carried; those who knew him understood that when Bob spoke, his insights were wise beyond his years.

A passionate lover of travel and nature, Robert delighted in exploring the beauty of various landscapes - from the serene vistas of New Hampshire and Niagara Falls to the majestic Smoky Mountains, the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon, and the rugged expanse of Monument Valley. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in fishing and took these interests further through his active involvement in scouting. He treasured the time spent guiding his boys when they were young on these adventures, fostering a connection with nature and life lessons that would endure for generations. Bob was a man of faith and was introduced to a beautiful young lady named Carole Ann McCarter by his youth director. Their connection was instant, and they exchanged their wedding vows on March 30, 1969, celebrating over 57 years of devotion to each other. Bob's proudest accomplishment was his family. He adored them and cherished every moment spent watching his children and grandchildren grow up, holding dear the simple, profound joys of family life.

Bob is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Carole Ann Otto; his sons, Robert Dale Otto III (Amy) and Karl Grant Otto (Julie); daughter, Tricia Helm Otto; his grandchildren, Melissa Otto Brooks (Ryan), Sarah Otto Lee (Will), Megan Otto Price (Nathan), Sydney Otto Blizzard (Bobby), Abigail Summers (Scott), Jordan Summers (Emily), Maci Kendric, Nicole Oakes (Christopher Oden), and Cody Hart; his great-grandchildren, Elijah Brooks, Luca Lee, Carson Lee, Joseph Price, Thomas Price, Emma Summers, Levi Oden, and Lainey Oden; his mother, Joyce Kawasaki Otto; his brother, Michael Otto (Lola); his sister, Susan Otto Brandom; his nieces and nephews, Lori Otto Mattson (Jeff), Jeremy Otto, Joshua Brandom (Tatiana), Joel Brandom (Stefany), and Jacob Brandom; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Zavier Mattson, Sophia Mattson, Evie Brandom, and Emma Brandom. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Dale Otto, and his brother-in-law, Scott Brandom.
