Robert William “Bill” Yates, 85 of Buckner, MO passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024 at his residence. Cremation is planned with private family inurnment in Buckner Hill Cemetery. Bill was born July 20, 1938 In Lone Jack, MO to Hollis Roy and Edith Lorraine (Markel) Yates and has been a lifelong area resident. He spent his early life in the Lone Jack area and graduated from public schools there before enlisting in the US Air Force where he served from 1956-60. He later went to work at the Ford Plant in Claycomo, MO where he worked for over 30 years in the maintenance department until he retired. He also served as a police officer for Buckner Police Department where he was interim police chief. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing and was a guitar player and played the bass guitar. He was a member of the Forest Grove Baptist Church in Kingsville and a longtime member of the United Auto Workers Union # 249. He was married to Emma Magill on September 10, 1960, she survives of the home. Other survivors include; 3 sons, Michael Yates of Buckner, MO, Scott Yates of Port Washington, WI and Andrew Yates and wife Loretta of Overland Park, KS and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 siblings and a grandson, Michael Anthony Yates in 2008.
