Myrtha Robinson

January 7, 1924 — March 31, 2013

Myrtha (Fenn) Robinson, 89, of Independence MO, passed away on March 31st 2013 in her home, after a brief illness. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 5th at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence MO. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 6th at the chapel. Burial will be at Mound Grove Cemetery.
Myrtha was born on January 7th 1924 in Carson, IA to Weaver and Bertha Fenn. She graduated from Carson High School and received her teaching certificate from Parsons College in Fairfield, IA. She obtained her first teaching position in Collins, IA, where she met her husband, William H. Robinson, Jr. Myrtha was a much respected teacher for over 30 years in schools in IA, IL, and MO, while she continued her own education over many of those years. She received her B.A. in education from Pestalozzi- Froebel College in Chicago and her Masters from Webster College in St. Louis. Myrtha was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church, and during her retirement years attended the Liberty Street and Mesa, Arizona Congregations. She was well- known for a variety of leadership roles in the several congregations where she served. Myrtha was especially known for her piano ministry, which she provided for nearly 80 years. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Church Women United and the Independence Music Club. She also volunteered at the Community of Christ Temple Library, Hope House, and the after-school program at Hocker Heights. Myrtha is survived by her three children, Kathy Robinson, Marcia Hettrick (Ric), Steve Robinson (Brenda); five grandchildren, Kristi Hettrick, Katie Dennis (Caleb), David Hettrick, Abby Robinson, Sam Robinson (Rachel); five great-grandchildren, Casey and Jackson Main; Danny, Callie, and Lily Dennis; sister, Joan Slaght (Lloyd); brother, Carl Fenn (Linda); sisters-in-law, Betty Fenn and Karol Atwood; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family suggests donations to Outreach International in Myrtha’s name.
