Roger William Sullivan was born in Buffalo New York, on June 1, 1933, to parents William and Jean Sullivan. Roger had three younger siblings, Jim, Betty Jean, and Joni. Roger was a veteran in the US Army and served during the Korean War. On June 30, 1956, he married Barbara Anne Bopst. Roger and Barbara had two daughters, Tammy Sullivan, and Kim Sullivan Lee. Roger is also survived by one Granddaughter, Hannah Grace Jackson. He has two son in laws, Gary Donnell and Ray Lee.
Roger was involved in the Community of Christ church since his youth. After moving his family to MO in 1960, he continued to be involved in his church, and was ordained to the offices of Deacon, Priest, Elder, Seventy and Evangelist. He was the youth Pastor, and eventually Pastor at the Blue Ridge Communities of Christ congregation.
Roger had many years of self employment in the areas of insurance sales and tax preparation. Rogers love of people and socialization lead to a love of sales. He was involved in a variety of sales opportunities throughout the years. Roger also taught Life Underwriting Training Courses at Longview Community College. During his time in Independence, Roger was president of the optimist club and president of the Independence Agents Group.
Rogers life was built on faith, hard work and a deep love for his family, for his church and most of all, for the Lord. Those who knew Roger, knew that Rogers faith was not something that he kept to himself. It was something he shared joyfully. He loved his church, and loved being in fellowship. He especially loved bringing others to the Lord through witness, and helping them to understand the importance of God in their lives. Roger will be missed by many.
