Gladys Rogers

Gladys M. Rogers passed away in her home Jan. 20, 2009. She was surrounded by loving family and friends. Services will be at 11 am, Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at Mt. Washington United Methodist Church. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10 am. A committal service will take place at 2:30 pm, Friday at Centerview Cemetery in Centerview, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Mt. Washington United Methodist Church or Southern Care Hospice.
She was born Gladys M. Shaw Aug. 20, 1911 on a farm northwest of Centerview, to Thomas and Millie (Jackson) Shaw. Gladys graduate from Centerview High School in 1931, and then went on to graduated from Central Missouri State Teachers College. She taught school for three years in a one-room schoolhouse.
On Dec. 25, 1935 she married Lee Glenn Rogers. They were married for seventy years when he preceded her in death Dec. 28, 2005. She loved to travel, if not with Glenn then in a group of friends. She has been from Alaska to Paris to Cancun. Gladys was a member of the American Teachers Assoc. for twenty-five years and the Salvation Army Aux. for twenty-eight years. She retired from Montgomery Wards after twenty-five years.
Known to all as Aunt Gladys, she has been a member of the Mt. Washington United Methodist Church for fifty-three years and was also a member of the Women’s Methodist Assoc.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Ulabell Shaw; two brothers Ora L. Shaw and Cleo L. Shaw of Warrensburg; two daughters Sharon R. Rogers and Glenda Lee Rogers. Her survivors include son Darrell G. Rogers and wife Sharon, Lee’s Summit, MO; four grandchildren: Sunniva Schmiege and husband Paul; Patty Mattu, Christina Boyer and husband Jason; Andrew Rogers and wife Sara; six great-grandchildren; nephew Gary Rogers and wife Joylin; special nieces and nephews Melva and Calvin Wright, Cleora Fox; Robert Shaw and Jo; Herbert Shaw and Shirley; Ronald Shaw and Wilma; and very special caregivers Carol Persinger and Pat Bates.
She will be missed by many friends in her church family.
