Irene Rogers

Irene D. Rogers, of Independence, Missouri passed away seven days shy of her 103rd birthday on Monday, May 24, 2010 at her home. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 PM Friday, May 28, 2010 with services beginning at 2:00 PM at Carson-Speaks Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Irene’s memory to Haskill Indian Nations University, 155 E. Indian Ave., Lawrence, KS 66046. Irene was born June 1, 1907 on an Indian Reservation in Macy, NE to Indian Chief, William F. and Grace (Pilcher) Springer. She lived on the reservation for many years prior to attending Haskill Indian Nations University. Upon graduation she married Gordon L. Rogers and moved to Independence. Irene and her brother and sister-in-law, George and Goldie Springer, co-owned and operated the Lexington Café for several years. She had also worked at the Gold Bond Stamp Store for many years. Her interests and hobbies included traveling and reading. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings: Evelyn Ruby, Myrl Yauch, Alice Vedderneck, George Springer, William Springer, and an infant sister; and two nieces: Maxine Hodges and Bonnie Gribble. She is survived by her caregivers: nephew George Springer, great-niece Staci Springer, great-niece Christi Springer and great-nephew Rick Windsor Also surviving are her nieces: Carol Rich and Carol Flaharity; great-nieces: Dana McCue, Robin Field, Lynda Patrick, Bonnie Hodges, and Julie Oxley; great-nephew Donivan Springer; and a host of extended family and friends.
