Opal P. Rogers, 79, Independence, MO passed away Sept. 4, 2011. Services will be 10 am, Friday, Sept. 9 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 pm, Thursday at the funeral home.
Opal was born Sept. 15, 1931 in Greenfield, MO. She was the matriarch of her family and loved to travel to Oklahoma, Utah and the Lake of the Ozarks. She also loved to arrange flowers for friends and family to give as gifts. She also was well known for her homemade BBQ sauce.
Opal was preceded in death by her son Charles Ashing, grandson Danial Winningham and brother Keg Shelton. She is survived by her husband of forty-nine years Charles Rogers, of the home;
daughter Joyce Winningham and husband Ted, Kansas City, MO; granddaughters Mechelle McConnell and husband Terry, Lake Lotawana, MO; Sabrina Moody, Raytown, MO; great-granddaughters Erica & Brooke Downing; and brother-in-law Doil Rogers and wife Penny, Lebanon, MO.
