Ron Fricks October 25, 1945 – March 17, 2025

Ron Fricks, age 79, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in South Gate, California, on October 25, 1945, he was the son of Wanda and John Fricks.

A proud graduate of Union High School, Class of 1963, Ron continued his education at San Bernardino Valley College before earning a degree in Industrial Arts and Technology with a minor in Aeronautics from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Air Force, where he received extensive training in hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, flight controls, and landing gears. Ron held his private pilot license which provided him another way to connect with his lifelong love of flying.

Throughout his career, Ron applied his education and experiences to engineering roles, taking on increasing responsibilities and eventually leading teams and organizations. Later in his career, he transitioned into contract work, using his deep knowledge and problem-solving skills to support teams wherever he was needed.

Above all else, Ron was a devoted father, and grandfather—his true pride and joy. Married to Jane Brightwell, he was a loving and supportive “Girl Daddy” who raised two strong and independent daughters, Elizabeth and Erica. He instilled in them the values of sisterhood, love, and resilience, often reminding them that their bond would carry them through both joyful and challenging times.

His family often joked that Ron was always best with animals and babies. All four of his grandchildren—Lucy, Sam, Kyle, and Coralie—connected with him before they could even communicate with the rest of the world. They, like everyone who knew him, cherished his presence. His family fondly remembers the phrase, "If Grandpa can’t fix it, we’re screwed," which speaks volumes about his talents—and his love. Ron could fix or figure out how to fix anything and found joy in improving things that weren’t even broken yet. One memorable example was when he added a custom bottom to a brand-new bird feeder “so the little birdie’s feet would have room.”

Ron’s legacy lives on in the everyday moments his family shares—in their laughter, how they support one another, and in the lessons he passed down. Though he is deeply missed, his love continues to surround them.

He leaves behind a family who adored him, a lifetime of cherished memories, and a lasting example of selflessness, strength, and love.
