Virgil Lee Roofener, 85, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 16th at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.
Virgil was born January 26, 1930 in Laclede, MO as the only child to Willie Vernon and Minerva (Ginnings) Roofener. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict (1952-53); specializing in radio communications. He married his beloved Donna (Jarboe) on July 12, 1959 and together raised three daughters. Virgil started off building houses and later honed his expertise as a skilled custom cabinet maker. He also enjoyed BBQ’ing, having made his own smoker out of a used refrigerator; playing string instruments like guitar, violin, and banjo, writing songs, and fishing. His family remembers him as a sweet, quiet, and loving man who provided well for his family.
Virgil is survived by daughters, Samara Cummins and husband William, Jr. of Independence, MO; Glenda Zamora and husband David of Raytown, MO; and Rebecca Miller and husband Steven of Galena, MO; eight grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Kelly Jarboe of Blue Springs, MO.
