Dora Rounds

December 31, 1923 — May 29, 2010

Dora Mae Rounds, 86 of Independence, passed away Sat. May 29, 2010 at her home at The Groves. Mrs. Rounds was born on Dec. 31, 1923 to Julian and Mary (Trost) Peterson in Hamilton, MO. Dora was an active member of the Community of Christ from the time she was blessed as a baby. When eight years old she was baptized in Tom Creek Southwest of Hamilton, MO. One of her favorite scriptures was Matthew 6:38 “Seek ye first to build up the kingdom of God, and to establish his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you”. Dora always said she was a “Jack of all trades” and not very good at any of them, but when asked to do something, she did the best she could. She was a music director, church pianist and Sunday school teacher. She also served as Far West Stake Women’s Council Leader. She was a member of the Pastorate of College Park and the Groves Congregations and was an Elder in the Community of Christ. Her faith grew stronger throughout her life and service to God. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William James Rounds, a brother, Wilmer Peterson and a sister, Sylvia Dunlap. She is survived by her sons, Paul Rounds and wife Susan of Bonner Springs, KS, and John Rounds and wife Linda of Independence, MO; A sister, Olive Schoff of Independence, MO. Four grandchildren, Aimee Babcock and husband Mike, John, Isaac and Travis Rounds. Four great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alex, Taylor and Conner Babcock.
