Russell Gene Still

Russell Gene Still, age 81 of Independence, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born on September 17,1944 to Russell and Doris (Leopold) Still, in Marceline, Missouri.

Gene graduated from Marceline High School in 1962. On November 25, 1967, he was united in marriage to Virginia (Thelen) Still in Marceline, Missouri. Gene and Ginny enjoyed life together for 58 years. 

Gene was a veteran of the US Army and worked for Western Electric in Lee's Summit, Missouri retiring in 1996 after 32 years. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church.

Gene was man of many talents. His passion was working in the yard, landscaping, growing flowers, making furniture and building things. He was great at counted cross stitching and even won a blue ribbon at the Missouri State Fair! He was also proud of receiving the Beauty of Independence award given by the Beautification Commission of the City of Independence in 1995. Above all he was a loving, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved big family gatherings with his large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Doris Still, sister Sandra (Still) Gladbach, and infant brother Bradley Mark Still.

Gene is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ginny Still of Independence, Missouri; his children, Christopher Still and his wife Beverly of Smithville, Missouri, Jonathan Still of Kansas City, Missouri; grandson Martin Still of Smithville, Missouri; his siblings, John Still and his wife Susan of Kansas City, Missouri, Frank Still and his wife Phyllis of St. Joseph. Missouri, and Barbara Levitt and her husband Michael of Kansas City, Missouri, his Thelen family in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Gene was a good man who was blessed with a good life and will be deeply missed.
