Ruth Evelyn Miller, 82, of Independence, MO passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, July 17, 2025. She was a devoted wife and mother, and adored her animals. She loved the color lilac and bragging about her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was born to Earl & Dorothy DeGraffenreid on November 6, in 1942, and was one of 6 brothers and sisters. She met Raymond Miller and they married in 1965. They had 3 children, Dottie, Max, and David. During her life, Ruth enjoyed caring for her family and animals, gardening, making delicious meals, doing crossword puzzles, and crafting, especially plastic canvas. She worked as an insurance claim auditor at GEHA for many years with her sister, Mary Sue.
Ruth is survived by her children: Dottie Brunner (Kevin), Max Miller (Deanna), and David Miller (Cheryl); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Earl & Dorothy (George) DeGraffenreid, and brothers and sisters: Donald DeGraffenreid, Mary Sue Phipps, Marvin DeGraffenreid, Dorothy Louise DeGraffenreid, and Joan DeGraffenreid.
Services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Speaks Buckner. A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. with the funeral following at 2p.m. There will be a graveside service immediately following at Buckner Hill Cemetery. The family has asked for memorial contributions to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
