Eugene Scassellati, Jr. 84, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015. A visitation will be held from 5:30pm -7:30pm Sunday, November 29th at Speaks Suburban Chapel with Rosary to follow at 7:30p at the chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, November 30th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Independence, MO. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
Gene was born December 15, 1930 in Frontenac, KS as one of four children to Ledia (Castellani) and Eugene Scassellati, Sr. He graduated from Frontenac H.S. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. Gene married his beloved Mary Margaret (Tierney) on July 14, 1952 and together raised five children. He was an original employee for Blue Ridge Bank and Trust for 38 years before retiring as Executive Vice President in 1997. Gene was a great husband, father, provider, and friend. He enjoyed gardening, cooking traditional Italian food, playing Bocce ball, and spending time with his family. They were life long members of St. Mary’s Catholic where he ushered and helped with the treasury. His family remembers him as energetic, dedicated, and deeply loving. Survivors include wife, Mary Margaret of the home; daughter, Catherine Scassellati (Mick Clark) of Liberty, MO; son, Gene Scassellati III (Jaymie) of Blue Springs, MO; son, Jeff Scassellati (Linda) of Blue Springs, MO; son, Joe Scassellati (Connie) of Liberty, Mo; son, Dan Scassellati (Cindy) of Blue Springs, MO; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; sisters, Marie Pyle of Girard, KS; Josephine Painter (Bill) of Arma, KS; and Diane Walsh of Girard, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers-in-law, Don Pyle and Ed Walsh. The family encourages contributions to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in his memory.
