Kirk Schafer

August 18, 1955 — September 26, 2008

Kirk William Schafer, 53, of Independence, MO, passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center following a cerebral hemorrhage. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Ave. in Overland Park, KS 66207. Gifts in his memory may be made to Swope Health Services - Imani House, 3950 E. 51st St., Kansas City, MO 64130. Kirk was born August 18, 1955, in Highland Park, MI to Richard Gordon and Bertalou (Nique) Schafer. He spent his early life in Michigan, graduating from Seaholm High School in Birmingham, MI in 1974. Following high school he attended Specs Howard School of Radio Broadcasting. He moved to Colorado Springs in the early 1980’s where he worked in maintenance for the school district. He moved back to Michigan for a short while before moving to the Kansas City area in late 1980’s. After attending Johnson County Community College, he worked locally as a glazier for FGI Glass Contracting, Inc. He was a member of the Painters and Allied Trades International Union, Glaziers Local # 558. He enjoyed playing guitar, music, fishing, boating and animals of all kinds. Kirk is survived by his loving mother, Bertalou Schafer-Stiles and loving stepfather, Raymond W. Stiles (Pops) of Overland Park, KS; his devoted sister, Polly Kennedy, of King City, CA; a stepbrother, Michael Stiles of Trumansburg, NY; two nephews who were his pride and joy, Benjamin Schafer Kennedy and Nathan William Kennedy of King City, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
