Robert Michael “Mike” Schlie, 65, of Independence, MO., peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on June 30, 2008. The family visitation to greet friends will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, July 2, 2008 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. Mike was born July 21, 1942 in Kansas City, MO to Harley and Zolah Faye Schlie. He was preceded in death by his father. He was a member of the Independence Fraternal Order of Eagles #3717. Mike was employed for over 50 years in the grocery business. He recently retired from W.W. Grainger Inc. after 9 years of service. Mike enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and looked forward to his annual trips to Colorado. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and being a “Jokester” who was known as “Slydog”. He loved his trips to Truman Lake especially putting on his annual fireworks display on the 4th of July. He is survived by; his mother, Zolah “Faye” Schlie of Independence, MO; a daughter, Julie Page and husband Jerry of Keystone, CO; a son, Gary Schlie of Holt, MO; grandchildren, Dalton Schlie and Amanda Page; a sister, Cathy Kilian of Independence, MO. The family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks to all family and friends, special thanks to all the staff at Kansas City Hospice who helped care for Mike.
