Carl F. Schrader, 91, passed away Monday, November 01, 2010, in Omaha, NE. He is survived by 3 children, Carl Jr. and wife Rose of Lexington, KY, David and wife Patricia of Dayton, OH, Judith Nauman and husband George of Omaha, NE; brother Joseph and wife Clara of Oskaloosa, KS; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Maxine (Young), and son Robert. A funeral mass on Friday November 5th at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church (7009 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO) will precede burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery (7601 Blue Ridge Blvd.). There will be no visitation.Carl was born February 7, 1919 in Holden, MO to Joseph and Erma (Duncan) Schrader. A 1937 graduate of De La Salle HS (Kansas City, MO), he married Maxine in 1940 and served in Europe with the 16th Armored Division during WWII. Carl worked for General Motors, transferring to Dayton, OH in 1955, where he and Maxine lived until 1974. Upon retirement, he and Maxine sailed their 35 foot sailboat from Lake Erie to their new home in Holiday, FL, where Carl resided until moving to Omaha in 2005. Carl was an accomplished sailor, a ham radio operator, and an avid golfer. He was also a lifelong model airplane builder and flier, and was an early pioneer in the development of radio controlled models, continuing to fly RC sailplanes well into his 80s.
