Hans Gunther Schulze, 87 of Independence, MO passed away, Sunday, April 7, 2013 surrounded by family. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church 17200 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Donations may be made in his name to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hans was born September 17, 1925 in Concordia, MO to Frederick Henry and Martha (Voight) Schulze. He had worked for 30 years for the GM assembly plant until his retirement in 1979. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling, watching TV sports and most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean Conflict. During WWII he served in Guam and was at the battle of Iwo-Jima where he saw the flag being raised. He later served in Korea where he was wounded. He was a member of the UAW #31 in Kansas City, MO, the VFW and the American Legion. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Aldine of the home; a daughter, Nancy Bruening of Independence, MO; 2 sons, David Schulze and wife Donna of Glendale, AZ and Jeff Schulze of Independence, MO; 2 brothers, Jim Schulze of Kansas City, MO and Mark Schulze of Concordia, MO; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marge Schilling and Gloria Dover and a brother, Gerhard Schulze.
