Ronald James “Ron” Schumaker, 68 of Independence, MO passed away, Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at North Kansas City Hospital. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2016 at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ron Schumaker Charitable Memorial Fund at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, 1055 Broadway Blvd. Suite 130, Kansas City, MO 64105. Ron was born May 7, 1947 in Higginsville, MO to James W. and Leita M. (Short) Schumaker. He later moved to Independence and graduated from Truman High School in 1965. He later graduated from Maple Woods Community College with an Associates Degree in Applied Science. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served during the Vietnam Conflict from 1966-72. He had worked as a marketing sales representative for Sam’s Club for over 19 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and pool, working in the yard, old movies and was an animal lover. He was a very patriotic man who was proud of his service to his country. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #2414 and the VFW both in Independence, MO. He is survived by; his wife, Nancy of the home; a daughter, Stephanie Morgan and husband Brian of Independence, MO; a son, Todd Schumaker and wife Janie of Kansas City, KS; 3 brothers, Bruce, Steve and Rick Schumaker and 4 grandchildren, Max, Dalton, Brayden, Madison, and his lifelong best friend Johnny Preator of San Diego, CA.
