Scott Russell Barelmann, 70, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Independence, Missouri, after battling kidney cancer.
Scott was born on January 26, 1956, in O’Neill, Nebraska, to Russell Barelmann and Valedine Koehler. He grew up alongside his younger brothers, Mark (“Marty”) and Brian (“Buck”), and later welcomed a half-sister, Pam, into the family. Some of his best memories came from summers on his grandfather Bernard Barelmann’s farm, where he learned the value of hard work and time spent with family.
On April 3, 1982, Scott married Randi Monheiser. Together they built a life and raised three children: Kara Gregory (Wes), Kayla Barelmann, and Brandon Barelmann (Chelsey). His family meant everything to him.
Scott made his home in Blue Springs, Missouri, but he always held on to his Nebraska roots. He was a loyal Nebraska Cornhuskers fan and rarely missed a chance to watch a game. He also followed the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals and enjoyed watching and talking about sports with others.
He built a career in the automotive industry after earning his Associate’s degree in auto technology. He spent many years managing a collision center at a Ford dealership in Blue Springs before later working as an insurance adjuster for American Family Insurance. In his later years, he worked at Home Depot, where he enjoyed helping customers and getting to know the people he worked with.
Scott stayed involved in his community, especially through his kids’ activities. He coached his daughters’ basketball teams and his son’s baseball teams, and spent many hours refereeing and umpiring local games. He believed in showing up and being there for people.
He was someone you could always count on to help with a project. He liked working with his hands and took pride in helping his kids with their homes, always ready to jump in and figure things out together.
Scott also enjoyed traveling. He visited several national parks and took a trip to Europe to connect with the German side of his family, something he truly valued.
He loved being a grandpa. Margo and Oliver, Kara’s kids, and Heidi, Brandon’s daughter, brought him a lot of joy, and he cherished the time he spent with them.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, and as someone who was easy to talk to and quick to make a connection. He made people feel comfortable, whether he had known them for years or had just met them.
He is survived by his wife, Randi; his children, Kara (Wes), Kayla, and Brandon (Chelsey); his grandchildren, Margo, Oliver, and Heidi; his brothers, Mark (“Marty”) and Brian; his sister, Pam; and many extended family members and friends.
Scott will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
