Donna Scranton

Donna J. (Teague) Scranton, 77, Independence, MO passed away May 14, 2011. A Celebration of Donna’s life will be held at 3 pm, Wed., May 18, 2011 at New Walnut Park Community of Christ, 1137 S. Pearl St., Independence, MO 64050. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Tue., May 17 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Committal services at Mound Grove Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Outreach International, 129 W. Donna was born April 13, 1934 in Independence, MO and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in the Class of 1952 and from Graceland College in the Class of 1954. She was a member of the New Walnut Park congregation all of her life and was very active in the church. Over the years, she worked as a Skylark and Oriole leader, a member of the Center Stake Women’s Council, served as congregational Women’s Leader and was involved with SPECTACULAR - a leadership, arts, sports and music youth camp - for over twenty years. She was also a master quilter and taught continuing education classes in quilting in Raytown and Independence for twenty-two years. She was a member of the Kansas City Quilters Guild.
Donna was preceded in death by sisters Velma Teague and Relma (Teague) Holcomb. She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years Jerry Scranton, of the home; daughter Susan Naylor and husband Jeff, Independence, MO; son Tom Scranton and wife Joy, Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren Karlynn, Erik, Janae and Jenna and many nieces and nephews.
