J.D. Sellers

J.D. Sellers, 75, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, March 29, 2004 at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday evening at the chapel. J.D. was born October 22, 1928 in Ft. Scott, Kansas to Joseph C. and Gladys F. (Thayer) Sellers. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the Firestone Tire Company for over 38 years, retiring in 1994 as a store manager. He was a member of the Independence Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club of Independence. He was married to Charleen Thompson on December 1, 1972, She survives of the home. Other survivors include; 2 sons, Doug Sellers of Lexington, OK and Scott Sellers of Chesterfield, MO; his step-mother, Lena Sellers of Ft. Scott, KS; a step son, Robert Ochs of Norman, OK; 2 step- daughters, Debra Sue Matthews of Virginia Beach, VI and Dana Storm of Independence, MO; a brother, Robert Sellers of Tulsa, OK; a sister, Barbara Barnes of Tulsa, OK; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial to the American Cancer Society
