James Selzer

James O. Selzer, 61, Lee’s Summit, died May 23, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th St. S., Independence, MO 64055; cremation. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Delta Tau Delta Educational Foundation, 10000 Allisonville Rd., Fishers, IN 46038 or the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas & Western Missouri, 6405 Metcalf Ave., Ste. 204, Overland Park KS 66202-4086.
Jim was born Sept. 26, 1948 in Lawrence, KS. He grew up in Baldwin and graduated from Baldwin High School. He graduated from Baker University with a B.S. He was a Fulbright Scholar and studied Molecular Biology in Germany for a year then received his M.S. in Molecular Biology from the University of Oregon. Jim later received his Juris Doctorate from K.U. He worked at the firm of Stinson, Morrison and Hecker for seventeen years and retired as managing partner of the Practice Division in 2009. He was the International President of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, a member of the American Bar Association and the Missouri Bar Association, served on the Board of Phoenix Family Funds and the Board of the National Kidney Foundation. Jim was an Eagle Scout and worked with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for eighteen years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed skiing, golfing, hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Jim is survived by his wife Barbara Selzer, of the home; sons Bryan Selzer and wife Amy, St. Louis, MO; Kevin Selzer, Denver, CO; brothers David Selzer and wife Jeanne, Dallas, TX; Bob Selzer and wife Suzanne, Lenexa, KS and grandson Owen Selzer.
