W. R. “Bob” Semple, 84, Independence, MO died March 7, 2008. Memorial services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, 100 N. Pleasant, Independence, MO 64050; cremation. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 10 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the International City Managers Educational Endowment Fund, Care Alternatives Hospice, 1st Presbyterian Church of Independence or the 1st Presbyterian Church of Mexico, 400 Lakeview Rd., Mexico, MO 65265.
Bob was born Aug. 23 1923 in Norfolk, VA. He earned a Bachelor of Political Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia where he also served as the President of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He then earned his Masters degree in Public Administration from Columbia University in New York. He then began a career in public administration, which spanned from 1954 to 1988; including serving as the City Manager at Aurora, CO and Mexico, MO among others. He was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Independence, a Lifetime Member of the International City Managers Assoc. and was active in Kiwanis.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Semple, of the home; and daughter Chere Semple, Blue Springs, MO.
