Jeffrie Shackelford

Jeffrie Lynn “Jalynn” Shackelford, 62, Independence, MO passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 in Chillicothe, MO. Memorial services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64052; cremation. Visitation will begin one half hour before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Friends of the Friendless Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 411, Lexington, MO 64067.
Jalynn was born Jan. 19, 1947 in Chillicothe, MO to Brownie and Mina (Croskey) Chittum. She married Lowell “Gene” Shackelford on April 13 1973. Mrs. Shackelford and her husband owned and operated Star Supply and Merchandise Company on Truman Rd. in Independence for twenty years before retiring in 2006. Jalynn was an active member of Women of the Moose Lodge #2414, where she was the recipient of several awards, including being recognized by Moose International as the Missouri Co-Worker of the Year for 2008-2009. She was instrumental in rescuing and securing homes for numerous homeless animals and was especially passionate about her cats. Jalynn’s eyes were donated to the Lion’s Club Eye Bank in the hope that someone may receive the gift of sight.
Jalynn was preceded in death by her husband, father and several beloved cats. She is survived by her mother, Mina Chittum; sister Kris Daniel, both of Chillicothe, MO; brother Robert Chittum and wife Linda, Willard, MO; and by a host of nieces, nephews and friends
