Lowell Shackelford

Lowell “Gene” Shackelford, 72, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 at the VA Medical Center. A Memorial Visitation will be 2-3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Friends of the Friendless Animal Rescue. Gene was born October 13, 1936 in Trenton, MO to Floyd and Lois Marie (McCreary) Shackelford. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Shackelford and his wife owned and operated Star Supply and Merchandise on Truman Road in Independence for 20 years before retiring in ’06. Gene was passionate about the care and rescue of cats. In his spare time, he enjoyed spoiling his 3 cats. Gene was a member of the Moose Lodge #2414, Moose Legion, Eastgate Masonic Lodge, and a lifetime member of the VFW. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jalynn (Chittum) Shackelford; brother Harry Shackleford; mother-in-law Mina Chittum; sister-in-law Kris Daniel; brother-in-law Robert Chittum and wife Linda; and by a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Clarence Chappell; brothers Charles and Billy Shackelford.
