Eleanor Jean Creason Shafer, 91, Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2013.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church or the Salem Cemetery Association.
Eleanor was born July 26, 1921 in Atherton, MO the daughter of Claude “Happy” and Ruth (Giffin) Creason. She was a 1939 graduate of William Chrisman High School and was an Alumni of William Jewel College. Eleanor taught English in the Independence School District for over 35 years. She was a member of numerous organizations including the Independence Pioneers Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution; Kansas City Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century.. Eleanor was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include her cousin, JoAnn Overman Dickey and her husband Gerald of Leawood, KS and their children, Marcy Dickey Waugh and husband George, Colonel William Dickey, and James Giffin Overman; second cousin, Lois Jean Weinhold of Carrollton, MO and her children, Marianne Abbott and her companion David Fetty, Henry Abbott and wife Leigh, and Sarah Abbott Reed and her husband Michael; and additional nieces, nephews, and family. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Merle Shafer in 2005, and her parents.
