Gladys A. Shannon, 96, formerly of Sibley, MO peacefully passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Medicalodges Care Center in Butler, MO. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Buckner. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 p.m. Burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or to Heartland Hospice, 4 W. Ohio St., Butler, MO 64730. Gladys was born December 4, 1911 in Purcell, MO to Walter Earl and Cora Myrtle (Scott) Wyatt, the eldest of ten children. Mrs. Shannon was a faithful and active member of the church. She had a very strong faith in God that carried her through life. Gladys co-owned the Curnutt Grocery Store in Jasper, MO and single-handily ran it during the war while her husband was overseas. Later in life, she co-owned and operated Shannon Dry Goods in Englewood with her second husband. Gladys held several offices in the Eastern Star. She loved to play the piano in her spare time. Gladys is survived by her sister Donna Pieratt and husband Phil; brother-in-law Clarence “Bus” Weatherford and wife Shirley; sisters-in-law Evelyn Wyatt, Ann Wyatt, Jackie Wright; and by a host of nieces, nephews and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband Floyd Curnutt in ’58; second husband Arnold Shannon in ’89; and by three sisters Helen Curnutt, Marie Terhune, Evelyn Weatherford; five brothers Russell, Earl, Harold, Leonard and Everette Wyatt.
