Alvin C. Sharp, Sr., 85, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center with his family by his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Speaks Suburban Chapel where the rosary will be recited at 7:30. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. in Osawatomie Cemetery in Osawatomie, KS. Alvin was born February 6, 1923 in Osawatomie, KS to Alvin Lee and Mary Ethel (Drake) Sharp. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received the Purple Heart Medal from injuries received in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Sharp retired from MO Pacific Railroad in 1978 after 34 years of service. He was a founding member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Al enjoyed vegetable gardening and bowling in his spare time. He was known for his warm and friendly personality, never knowing a stranger. Al is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn A. (Miller) Sharp; sons Alvin C. Sharp, Jr. and his wife Marian, Randy J. Sharp and his wife Laurie; grandchildren Ronald Lee Winn and his wife Lisa, Krysti Hunsberger and her husband Cody, Aaron Sharp, Abby and Maggie Sharp; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Spooner, Shirley Comstock. Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Ann; and granddaughter Melissa.
