Meredith Anne Shaw, 63, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at KU Medical Center surrounded by her family. Her courageous seven year battle with renal cell carcinoma was inspiring to all that knew and loved her. She fought a hard battle and gave it her all. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2009 at Speaks. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Meredith was born December 19, 1945 in St. Joseph, MO to Jack and Elaine (Whitman) Myrick. She graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1963 where she was the homecoming queen, and a member of the choir and cheerleading squad. Mrs. Shaw was a dedicated employee of AT&T for 30 years before her retirement in 1995. It was at AT&T that she met her life-long friend, Sharon Giro. Meredith was a member of the Pioneer’s Club after her retirement. Mrs. Shaw enjoyed music, going to concerts and spending time with her family and friends, and vacationing in Lake Tahoe, NV. She loved watching the Kansas City Sports teams, especially the Chiefs, Royals and MU Tigers. Meredith had a smile that could instantly light up a room. Her laugh was contagious and full of happiness. She was especially happy when she was playing with her four grandchildren. Grandma’s are God’s special angels that we know for sure. Meredith is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Donald Shaw; son Brian Buchanan and wife Kim; daughter Lori Blomquist; grandchildren Nick and Phillip Lamanno, Emma Buchanan, Meredith Blomquist; brother, Jack Myrick and by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents in 1994. The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at KU Medical Center for the care and support they provided.
